WHAT CAN I DO TO START SOMETHING NEW IN LIFE?
EMBRACE MINIMALISM
One of the first steps to a new life is simplifying your surroundings and your mind. Minimalism isn’t just a trend; it’s a lifestyle that can help you focus on what truly matters. A great resource is Goodbye, Things: The New Japanese Minimalism by Fumio Sasaki. Sasaki’s story of transforming his life by eliminating excess is an inspiring starting point for anyone looking to reset. This shout out, sold me: “Fumio Sasaki is not an enlightened minimalism expert or organizing guru like Marie Kondo―he’s just a regular guy who was stressed out and constantly comparing himself to others, until one day he decided to change his life by saying goodbye to everything he didn’t absolutely need.“
NATURAL ELEMENTS
Nature has a calming effect for me, and it can enhance well-being and creativity. I don´t have a garden so I introduce natural materials like wood, stone, and plants into the home. Not only do this beautify the space, but plants also improve air quality and encourage mindfulness. Consider starting with a Monstera plant, low maintenance yet stunning, it’s a perfect companion for your new life journey.
SUSTAINABLE HOME
A sustainable lifestyle aligns with a mindful approach to living. Choosing eco-friendly and ethically produced products not only reduces your carbon footprint, but also makes a statement about what you value. Invest in items that are made from recycled or upcycled materials, and support brands that prioritize the planet. One innovative product I´ve come across recently is this bottle made entirely of soap, reducing the need for plastic containers and aligning with sustainable living goals. It´s still in development though.
SUPPORT LOCAL
Starting fresh doesn’t mean doing it all alone. Supporting local artisans and small businesses not only enriches your community but also connects you with unique products that resonate with your values. Whether it’s buying a gift or treating yourself, choosing local helps sustain the economy and fosters a sense of belonging.
SET ACHIEVEABLE GOALS
Starting something new can be daunting, but breaking down your goals into manageable tasks can make the process smoother. Writing down your goals in a notebook can help track your progress and keep you motivated. Check or tick them off as you complete them, and you will feel more accomplished. The Moleskine Classic Notebook is perfect for this with its high-quality pages and sleek design.
WHY IS IT SO HARD TO START SOMETHING NEW?
FEAR OF FAILURE One of the biggest barriers to starting fresh is the fear of failing. It’s natural to worry about the unknown but remember that failure is a part of growth. Every setback is a learning opportunity that brings you closer to your goals.
OVERWHELM When faced with a big change, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude of it all. This is why breaking your goals into smaller, actionable steps is crucial. Start small, and gradually build momentum.
ATTACHMENT TO THE FAMILIAR Humans are creatures of habit. We find comfort in the familiar, even when it no longer serves us. To successfully start anew, it’s important to recognize this attachment and consciously choose to move beyond it.
LACK OF SUPPORT Starting over can feel lonely, especially if those around you don’t understand or support your journey. Seek out communities, whether online or in person that align with your goals and can provide encouragement and guidance.
